This is a fresh twist in the hidden object game world, as it combines the hidden object game style with a sim-type adventure where you will be working toward building a civilization from virtually nothing. The theme of this story is unique and interesting, starting off with a group of people, led by their emperor seeking new ground in which to begin their settlement. When the perfect place is found, the gaming adventure begins as you, the player, are responsible for helping them build their new lives.

When starting from nothing, there is much to be done and the game will become more and more challenging as you go along, which makes sense, as you continue to expand a community; more and more resources will be required. You will be informed by the people what is needed and then set out on your journey through a myriad of hidden object scenes to collect the necessary items. Settlement: Colossal is different than your typical hidden object game in that you are not simply moving through a series of hidden object scenes and locating a list of objects; you must strategize here because it is necessary for you to determine the priority of the items you are gathering because the number resources you may carry at one time is limited.

As the civilization grows, the decision making process becomes more complicated and although you may find yourself backtracking, and maybe even returning  to the same scene, the objects will not be in the same place, and whole new areas within an area will open up as you go along. For example, as factories are added, you may go to them for goods, yet it will cost you raw resources. These need to be replenished by returning to particular hidden object scenes.

As would be expected in a hidden object game, you will also be presented with mini games which are splendidly presented. They are a combination of the familiar pipe and jigsaw type puzzles as well as the brain teaser/adventure types where you may be required to not only locate certain elements, but also figure out how they might be combined or work together. Some of them are actually quite difficult and worth the challenge, however, they may be skipped.

There's a great sense of satisfaction and excitement in watching the progression of this growing civilization. The artwork is stunning and players are sure to enjoy plenty of hours of captivating and challenging entertainment.
